Shaun Fickling is a PhD Candidate at Simon Fraser University working out of the Surrey NeuroTech Lab. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering (with Honours) and a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering, both from the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
Shaun’s passion is for developing medical technologies that address real-world health issues. At the University of Cape Town he was part of a team that developed a low-cost automated fluorescence microscope to rapidly detect tuberculosis bacilli in sputum samples. He also designed an algorithm to predict non-contact Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries in athletes.
His current research focuses on patient-specific applications to advance the diagnosis and monitoring of concussions using state-of-the-art brain imaging technologies and functional stimulation methods.
