Lab Research Focuses

Brain vital signs

Over 20 years of clinical translational R&D to enable the world's first brain vital sign monitoring from electroencephalography (EEG). Brain vital sign applications span across neurology, including concussion, traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, and many other neurological conditions. Scientific and technical work on deployable EEG platform technologies together with advanced signal processing, machine learning and algorithm development.

Brain plasticity and recovery

Extensive R&D in the utilization of functional brain imaging to monitor neuroplasticity changes over time during recovery of function. Clinical translation of neuroplasticity monitoring and assistive device technologies for improved rehabilitation treatment in neurological injury and/or disease. Scientific technical work on image and waveform analysis, assistive device robotics, and neuromodulation/neurostimulation.

Brain trauma and functional status

Long-standing R&D program that utilizes EEG along with other neuroimaging to provide objective evaluation in disorders of consciousness (DOC). Point-of-care evaluations utilize the HCS EEG, with research using magnetoencephalography (MEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to better understand the neural mechanisms of conscious awareness for functional evaluation following severe brain trauma.

Neurotechnology and Neural Engineering the development of innovation point-of-care enabled medical devices that translate research advances into real world patient care improvements to help optimize brain health for globally disruptive impacts

Systems and Clinical Neuroscienceutilizing state of the art imaging technologies (EEG, MEG, MRI, and TMS) and cutting edge analysis techniques to help understand brain function under normal and impaired conditions

Diagnostics and Therapeutics utilizing both fixed and point-of-care infrastructure/ medical devices; improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of brain injuries and disorders
